Isidor’s Cheek

An adventure told in song and miniature puppets on a revolving table.

One day, something drives Isidor from his little gray existence. His cheek runs away, and Isidor must search around the world to find it again. His journey takes him through a world of color and beauty as he contends with loneliness and sometimes danger. Inspired by a German children’s book. Isidor’s Cheek won a Citation of Excellence from UNIMA in 1999.

The History of Isidor’s Cheek

Isidor’s Cheek was conceived and performed by Ines Zeller Bass.

The show was awarded an UNIMA Citation for Excellence in the Art of Puppetry in 1999 and has played for audiences around the world since its creation in 1997. Touring highlights included the Jim Henson Festival at the Public Theater in New York City, the Puppeteers of America Festival in Seattle WA, and tours to Germany, Holland, Scotland, Wyoming, Florida, Georgia, Utah and Yukon Territory.

In 2024 Ines handed over the piece to her daughter Jana Zeller who designed and built most of the original puppets and scenery, and in whose hands the piece now has another life.
