Workshop for kids

Summer Puppet Camp

Our 2020 camp session has been canceled due to ongoing safety considerations and impact of COVID-19. We are continuing to monitor the situation and develop offerings for the future.

Monday June 29 - Friday July 3, 2020 from 9 am - 3 pm, $250 per child. Youth ages 9 and up, join us for a week of puppet building and performing, using lots of recycled materials, inventing props and sets, and bringing a short performance to life on the Sandglass stage for our families and friends! This year we will work with themes surrounding climate change and looking at simple ways in which we can all live more sustainably. Each participant will make a puppet to take home at the end of the week. On top of having a lot of fun in the theater, we will also enjoy the beautiful field and woods behind Sandglass and the popsicles at the General Store.Youth ages 9 and up, join us for a week of puppet building and performing, using lots of recycled materials, inventing props and sets, and bringing a short performance to life on the Sandglass stage for our families and friends! Workshops and Residencies

Puppetry is an amazing means of encouraging expression in children and developing confidence, literacy, hand/eye coordination, team building and creative imagination. We offer:

Workshop

A two hour session in which we construct a simple puppet that is appropriate for the age group we are working with (ie. k-3: Sock puppets 4-up Marionettes or rod puppets) and show basic manipulation techniques. Each participant gets to take their hand-made puppet home.

Residency

A workshop series which explores the adventure of creating a puppet show, including puppet and set building, rehearsal and a final performance. Students will engage in team-building activities, develop performative skills, and learn how to manipulate a puppet. We can customize the story to support the curriculum being studied in the classroom.

Sandglass works with your school or program to customize workshops, residencies and other events! Please contact us about in-person and virtual/remote programs at info@sandglasstheater.org to book a workshop or residency for your school or group.
