Puppet Building Virtual Workshops

About the Program

July 13-18, 2020

Join us for a weeklong workshop in puppet building with a flexible schedule! We will be building a rod puppet particular to Sandglass’ style and teaching, with easy-to-follow demonstration videos and written explanations. Instructions—video and written— will be posted daily to a private Facebook group page that will remain interactive for the duration of the course. Participants can work on their own time, and ask questions and connect with the cohort of puppet builders and instructors.

Cost for the class is $85 + Materials. You may opt to collect your own materials or you can order our kit for $30 plus shipping costs. Curbside pick up is also possible. Orders for kits that will be shipped must be made by July 1; orders for curbside must be made by July 5 and will be ready for pick up July 8 - 10.

A materials and tools list is available HERE If you are not familiar or uncomfortable with powertools, the building kit contains pre-cut and drilled wood pieces required to build the puppet. In addition all participants, including those purchasing a kit , will need to have: glue gun, glue sticks, scissors, measure, newspaper paper, brown paper bags, masking tape, white glue and water for papermaché and a container to hold the papermaché, a brush, a marker, 2 pieces of strong cardboard 5” x 6” each (still able to be cut or bent), strong wire that is not too thin but still bends easily, wire cutter, pliers.

We are aware that many are facing financial challenges at this time, and are seeking sponsors to pay participation slots for those in need. If you are in a position to fund a slot, please let us know. Likewise, if payment is a challenge for you at this time, let us know so we can help to find a sponsor for you.

How will this class work?

The whole class will be conducted in a private Facebook group. We recommend bookmarking the class page and checking back often. Remember, if you are on a phone to refresh the page often so you don't miss anything!

Every day, we will post a combination of written instructions and videos of that day’s building steps, and some performer training exercises Sandglass uses in our teaching. There is no scheduled class time thus giving you flexibility to work on your own time. We will be available throughout the day and able to interact and answer questions. If you have questions they will surely be helpful for the whole group so please ask directly on the group page.
